Upcycle It!

In 2010, I wanted to do something to get more people recycling and thinking green.  I had been watching this company called TerraCycle for a few years.  I was intrigued by their business model – get companies to take responsibility for their waste by paying people to collect it, then make something useful out of it.  I finally took the plunge and the rest is history.  The Upcycle It! program was born.  I soon teamed up with Sustainable Westford as it fits so well with their mission… and mine!

Sustainable Westford’s Upcycle It! program collects non- recyclable items recyclables such as Elmer’s Glue, chip bags, granola bar wrappers and more to keep them out of the waste stream.

Have you seen our Westford Cable show on Upcycle It!

CURRENT TOTALS: As of April 7, 2014:

530,264 pieces equaling 5,333 lbs of trash saved from the waste stream.

$9,831.90 raised for the Westford Schools.

These items are sent to TerraCycle who pays 2 cents for each item collected. This money is donated to the Westford Public Schools.

To participate, save the items we accept on the back. We can only accept wrappers and packaging that once held one of these items. It matters more what was in the bag or wrapper than the type of material it is made out of.

Please make sure you are saving the correct items and preparing them properly. Our volunteers must sort the items by hand. Your help makes this process so much smoother and cleaner!
